Safran Starts More Electric Aircraft R&D on Toulouse Site

On October 5 2016, Guillaume Lecompte Boinet wrote an article for AIN Online talking about how Safran is working more and more on their research and development on electro aircrafts on the Toulouse site. Toulouse site is considered one of Safran’s newest facilities. This is located right next door to the main factory of Airbus. Both of these sites are located on the Toulouse Blagnac Airport.

This site is approximately 270,000 sq ft. Here is what Safran’s CEO Phillipe Petitcolin has to say about this.

“We had multiple activities concentrated in this region and this rationalization allows us to better serve our main client Airbus. This will improve our ability to pursue innovation in the field of more electric aircraft, which is a very important objective for our group. There is more electrical power on aircraft now and this trend is only going to increase.”

It seems as if this site is focusing mostly on the next generation of airlines which will be using things such as electrical cabling that is lighter with more resistance. These will be commonly found in modern airplanes which makes this site more effective for the job.

Safran is also in the works of opening up another factory that will be located in Queretaro, Mexico. This facility will cost over $80 million. This facility will be made with a focus on making composite structures for the CFM International Leap engine.
