Raytheon and Kongsberg Team Up for the Naval Strike Missile

In a recent joint venture announced in April 2015, Raytheon and Kongsberg hope to source solutions for the upcoming OASuW (Offensive Anti-Surface Warfare) mission. This marks the second time that the two companies combined efforts, the first of which took place last year for the development of the Joint Strike Missile.

President of Raytheon Missile Systems, Dr. Taylor Lawrence, stated,
“Raytheon and Kongsberg have a proud history of consistent partnerships to produce and improve the world's most trusted weapon systems. This agreement enables us to bring a complete suite of solutions to the warfighter for the critical OASuW mission."

As part of the NSM technology, a versatile air-launching system, this plan will act as the main weapon for Poland’s land-based defense for the coast and Norway’s military. This machinery has the capability of hitting targets nearly 200km off of land- and sea-based platforms.

Furthermore, the US Department of Navy (DoN) plans to utilize the OASuW weapon system for coastal defense. The NSM is also capable of identifying targets through an advanced imaging infrared seeker. This design uses an autonomous target recognition technology that also allows the machine to emit low observable signals to avoid detection from enemies. It can also perform evasive maneuvers to counter heavy force retaliation, including climbing and descending through rough terrain.

For more than ninety years, Raytheon has been a leading American defense contractor for aerospace and electronics technology. With more than 63,000 employees worldwide, annual revenues have reached approximately $25 billion, most of which has been allocated towards military applications, such as the Standard Missile-2. With this joint cooperation, Raytheon is expected to grow and expand within the defense industry.
