Northrop Grumman Wins $111M Contract Modification from USAF for LAIRCM Missile Defense System

The United States Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a combined order of $111 million to the previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract to provide hardware and support for the Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (LAIRCM) System. The contract calls for Northrop Grumman to deliver extra transmitters, missile warning sensors, processors, lasers, control interface units and supporting equipment to the United States Air Force along with other worldwide customers. The company must also provide modernized control interface unit replacement in addition to the hardware. Delivery will continue through April 2017.

Northrop Grumman's numerous infrared countermeasure systems are currently installed or are planned to be installed on more than 1,000 military aircraft around the world. These systems are used to defend 55 different types of large fixed wing transports and rotary wing platforms from infrared missile attacks. The experienced and dependable technology has been integrated in more than 3,250 pointers and trackers that are now in complete production to protect these aircraft, supporting more than 1 million hours of theatre operation.
