L-3 Communications has just announced today that their WESCAM division has just received a substantial order to provide MX™-15 electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems for installation for a fleet of Airbus H215 twin-engine helicopters as part of a contract from the Finnish Border Guard. The system deliveries which still need to be handed over to Airbus for installations are set to be completed by June of 2017. The H215 helicopters will be used in support of various missions across Finland which will include search and rescues (SAR) and maritime border patrol.
The imaging and targeting systems manufactured by L-3 can range in size anywhere from inches to 25 inches in diameter and provide crystal clear high-resolution with a stabilized full-motion intelligence used in support of low-level tactical to high-altitude, ultra long-range persistent missions. A demonstration is scheduled at the Farnborough International Airshow in the pavilion next to the L-3 Chalet – A15 in the near future for the rest of L-3’s MX™-8, MX™-10 and MX™-25 surveillance systems. Vice president of sales and business development for L-3 WESCAM, Paul Jennison believes that the
“selection of L-3’s MX technology for the H215 platform further strengthens our standing relationship with the Finnish Border Guard.”
Steve Kantor, the president of L-3’s Electronic System s business segment echoed Jennison’s sentiments and agrees that L-3’s WESCAM equipment for airborne, land- and marine-based platforms have become a necessity for public safety organizations as demand increases for assistance in border patrols, emergency rescues.
Due to its powerful imaging capabilities the MX-15 will provide the Border Guard with a more expeditious and effective means to conduct searches under less than optimal conditions due to lighting conditions as well as other visual deterrents such as fog, haze and smoke. Each MX-15 is individually equipped and configured with an HD thermal imager, HD color low-light imager, wide-angle laser illuminator and a dual channel spotter.
In addition, the systems will come with a series of performance-enhancing technologies like auto-tracker, MX-GEO, Image blending, and interfaces to both a slaved searchlight and a moving map. The Finnish Border Guard also ordered licenses for L-3 WESCAM’s Operation and Organizational maintenance and eLearning courses which are designed to teach consumers how to utilize the system to its maximum potential.
