In order to meet South Korea’s requirements for its next generation of Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) and Light Civil Helicopter (LCH), Airbus Helicopters has come together with Korea Aerospace in a collaboration to develop two 5-ton class rotorcraft. Airbus Helicopters, which is the LAH and LCH competition winner, will further its relationship with Korea Aerospace Industries as the two companies have worked together in the past on a joint program to develop Korea’s Surion twin-engine utility transport helicopter.

said Guillaume Faury, president of Airbus Helicopters.
“We are committing our full support in ensuring the LCH and LAH projects will be completed on time, on cost and to specification.”
Airbus Helicopters’ H155, previously known as the EC155, will act as the basis for both of the LAH and the LCH. The H155 is the most recent variant of its best-selling Dauphin family, which includes the Panther military as well as parapublic alternatives which have already proven their capabilities all around the world.
“The LCH and LAH programs will build on our collaboration with Korea Aerospace Industries on the Surion, which has become a reference in successful rotorcraft collaboration,” added Faury. “By continuing our relationship, we will significantly reduce the risks of these two new development programs, while meeting all of the mission requirements.”
Under this new partnership development, Airbus Helicopters will be expected to provide the company’s technical know-how, in order to ensure that Korea is capable of developing its newest products which will eventually become the next-generation leading light rotorcraft in the 5 ton weight category.
